Maryam Chaib De Mares is an assistant professor at the National University of Colombia. She studies the evolutionary and molecular bases of the symbiotic relationships that marine invertebrates maintain with microorganisms. She is also interested in understanding how ecological conditions modify the dynamics of these interspecific interactions. Maryam holds a Master’s degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Montpellier 2 in France and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. At the latter university, she completed her doctoral training in Microbial Ecology and Bioinformatics. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Biology and Microbial Ecology research group at the University of los Andes, she taught undergraduate and master’s classes in Genomics, Microbial Ecology, and Bioinformatics. She is a consultant on statistics and data analysis for the private sector. Additionally, since her doctoral studies, she has trained in research data management, leading the adoption of reproducibility practices in computational biology. Beyond biology research, he has participated in open data initiatives to bring these skills to all interested citizens.

Diego Carrillo is a biologist and is pursuing a Master of Science - Biochemistry at the National University of Colombia. His interest is focused on the study of symbiotic relationships, analyzing evolutionary, molecular and biochemical processes from omics science data, using bioinformatic and experimental tools. He is currently working on understanding the degradation mechanisms of lignocellulose in microbial consortia, and explores its possible application in the production of recombinant enzymes through bioprospecting and synthetic biology for the use of recalcitrant plant biomass.

Kevin Manolo Forero is an undergraduate student in Biology at the National University of Colombia. His areas of interest include biochemistry, microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, the latter being the one with the most experience. His interest lies in the study of microorganism-animal interactions, both in a symbiotic and pathogenic context. As a member of the group, he has participated in the study of bacterial proteins with potential in modulating the host phenotype, and is currently evaluating tests for the functional validation of this type of protein predicted computationally.

Jose Luis Maldonado Gutiérrez is a graduate student in Biology at the National University of Colombia, focused on the study of the interactions between the microbiota and its host. He has worked in the study of the secretion of bacterial proteins and their impact on modulation of the host phenotype. He is currently developing a pipeline to automate the prediction of the subcellular location of bacterial proteins, integrating various bioinformatic tools. It has a strong interest in data science and programming, and its current projection is oriented towards the application of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, in the resolution of complex biological problems.

Edgar is an undergraduate biology student at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, with a special interest in cellular and molecular biology, in addition to biochemistry. Its academic approach is oriented to the study of cellular processes and symbiotic interactions, particularly in the context of microorganisms. He is interested in understanding the energy metabolism of parasitic protozoa such as Plasmodium and Kinetoplastide members of medical importance, as well as the molecular mechanisms that regulate host-symbionte relationships, with an emphasis on the role of small RNAs (sRNAs) as regulatory elements. intercellular. He has experience in the morphological diagnosis of intracellular parasites belonging to the Kinetoplastida (Trypanosoma, Leishmania) and Apicomplexa (Plasmodium, Haemoproteus) groups, and also in the management of basic techniques in molecular biology.

Sergio is an undergraduate student in Biology at the National University of Colombia. His main areas of interest are immunology and cell biology. He has participated in projects related to the presentation of artificial antigens for cancer therapies, as well as in the assembly and annotation of immunological genes in Crocodylus intermedius. Within the group, he works on the theoretical and silic development of a protocol for the prediction of regulatory sRNAs in interactions between the intestinal microbiota of Caenorhabditis elegans and its host.
